Fixing GERD 30 Day Experiment- Days 16-20

Last week I started seeing definite improvement in my GERD. Is it perfect? Not even kind of but it is improving. I’m traveling this week which is making everything harder but it’s not impossible.

Okay let’s get started with the Journal.

Day 16

I’m on day 44 of AIP and halfway through my GERD experiment. I am in Arizona and in a rental house with three other women. One of which is on the weight loss drug that is so popular, I woke at three to her being sick all night. It was not pleasant for either of us.

I know that living a healthy life is hard but is that worth it. Obviously it is for many people but when I think how hard I fight to not feel that way I just don’t understand. I would do anything to not feel sick.

I missed half my supplements last night because I passed out, including my melatonin that I now desperately wish I had taken them so I could have maybe slept through the whole ordeal.

I was at 14.8k steps when I went to bed. I try to hit 10k everyday but it only happens 50% of the time. Yesterday I was there by 3pm. Which explains my exhaustion. It’s another busy day and more things have been added to my plate. My plan to leave Thursday morning is shaky at best. I’ll probably end up leaving Friday night but I’m not changing my reservation yet. Just maybe I can get it done., it will be harder now that one of my direct reports is down for at least the day but still we could get there.

Day 17

I’m exhausted, sticking to my regimen has been so difficult with the constant go. If I ever felt like slacking this is it. I forgot to take my Zinc Carnosine last night. Man I disappoint me, this one really helps but I always take new pills at night because I don’t want to have a bad reaction when I’m working.

It was a 12 hour work day and then a dinner. I was so exhausted I got in my pjs to read and I was out before I even started. I am not feeling great on this trip and I know it’s because I’m not taking care of myself. I originally planned on leaving first thing Thursday morning but now I’ve moved my flight to Friday night because of the extra project. Hopefully after this week, I can rest until the end of the year. I know it’s only a few weeks but I need it.

Day 18

Well I was good yesterday and took most of my supplements and had a lot of protein yesterday and my body does feel better. Exhausted but less crappy. To be fair building a store is hard work. It’s stressful and intense manual labor with 10-12 hour days. Not to mention when you’re one of the bosses from corporate there are tons of questions from staff. I get it, but it’s mind numbing and it wears you out.

Yesterday I felt like garbage with the acid and nausea but this morning I feel a little better. Tired still but less lethargic.

Another event tonight that I pray I will make it through but then home tomorrow. I miss my home and I miss my routines. I imagine this weekend I’ll collapse but then I slow down at least for a few weeks and I cannot wait.

Overall a good day. I don’t think I had any Zofran. Everything is a blur now so I can’t be sure. I took the zinc L Carnosine last night. I think this might be the difference maker. I felt much better today. I forgot it yesterday and I felt miserable.

Time will tell I guess.

Day 19

Oh I finally head home today. The store looks beautiful and it’s finally open to the public. This morning I’ll make my smoothie early and start packing. A jam packed day tomorrow but finally home to my normal life.

In spite of some bad days, it was a nice trip. I was very social and my new partner from operations did very well on his first store. So good feelings all around.

As for my acid/GERD, I’ll try to keep you posted if the zinc l Carnosine continues to work but so far this seems to have the most impact.

Evening Update: I am finally home, tired and worn out. No GERD today.

Day 20

Ah, I slept in my own bed last night and that was awesome. I even got 7 hours of sleep which is much better then my 3 to 4 hours per night last week.

Somehow I stretched my leg wrong late last night and now I’m hurting there. It hurt like a Charlie horse but all the way to my ankle. It’s still tender this morning but not as drastically.. I kept my potassium levels up but maybe all the time on my feet and running around exhausted my muscles. I dont know but not loving it regardless.

I averaged about 15,000 steps a day on this trip and 10,000 the week before without even trying. I typically am at 5000-9000 per day. So it would make sense. I really need to get in better shape.

Baby steps. I’m working hard to better my body. Maybe exercise is the next step.

My GERD is improving, I really think the Zinc Carnosine is the reason, it has improved it so much. The ACV helps, the aloe, the magnesium, mastic gum all helpful contributors but I’ve noticed the biggest difference when I started taking This.

So what did I put in my body this week.

Let’s start with what I ate:

  • Every morning a smoothie (coconut milk, bananas, berries, honey, collagen, liquid vitamin)
  • Lots of hamburger patties with bacon and avocado
  • Salad with Chicken, olives, cranberry, cucumber, carrots, bacon
  • Water
  • Honest Apple Juice
  • Licorice Tea
  • Steak

I know you’re thing wow a lot of red meat but my body craved it and so that’s what I fed it. Plus steakhouse one night for dinner and company barbecue of hamburgers which I snacked on for a few days.

Here are the supplements I used:

  • Collagen (recommended dosage)
  • Mary Ruth Vitamins
  • Licorice Root (1capsule)
  • Marshmallow Root (1capsule)
  • Slippery Elm (1capsule)
  • Digestive enzymes (1 with each meal)
  • Manuka Honey (1 teaspoon)
  • Mastic Gum (1 capsule)
  • Zinc L Carnosine (1 capsule), I forgot one night and felt it)
  • Melatonin (5 mg)
  • B12 (1 capsule)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (Gummies)

A fairly successful week, I managed to gain a pound, open a beautiful new store, and for the most part stay on my supplements and never stopped doing my AIP Diet. I’m at 48 days now on it and looking forward to my 60 day mark.

Anyway I hope this has been as helpful for you as it has been for me. My appetite is improving and my GERD is getting so much better. I hope next week I’ll see even more improvement.
