There are so many uses for coconut oil it’s mind boggling.
But I thought I would do a quick summary for you. I’ll break this into sections of how it can help you internally and externally. Remember I’m not a doctor so it’s important that you check with a doctor before you try any new treatments or supplements.
Externally
- Hair – It can relieve itchy scalp, can be used as a pre-shampoo treatment for moisturizing your hair thanks to vitamin E, K and Iron in coconut oil. It Helps control dandruff, and it can calm down frizz.
- Eyes – A light coating of 100% Virgin coconut oil on your eyelids (be careful not to get in your eyes) can assist in dry eyes in the morning when you put it on before bed. I suffer from dry eyes thank you graves and I just learned about this so I definitely will be trying this out. It Can calm puffy eyes. It’s also a fantastic Eye makeup remover.
- Nose – heals cracks in nostrils when you’ve used one too many Kleenexes, it can also soothe a dry nose.
- Mouth – coconut oil soothes cracked and chapped lips. I have definitely used this application and it’s fantastic.
- Neck – moisturizes your skin, with regular use can help produce collagen which can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
- Breasts – Reduce nipple cracks and nipple pain for nursing moms.
- Torso – rubbing coconut oil in your belly button is thought to aid in digestion, Also if you’re pregnant this is great for managing stretch marks.
- Hands and Arms – obviously coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer, especially great for dry ashy elbows. It Can be used as a Cuticle oil, surprisingly it is also often used as a natural deodorant
- Legs – again a wonderful moisturizer but can also be used as a shaving cream. I made an awesome shaving cream from coconut oil and honestly I haven’t used shaving cream since.
- Feet – when applied to your calluses it can help your feet not to crack or bleed, also because its anti-bacterial properties it helps treat athletes foot, and reduce symptoms of ringworm.
Internally
- Brain – MCT’s in coconut oil can be used for brain fuel, it can help lift that morning brain fog, and its been shown to reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease
- Nose – cleanses the sinuses.
- Oral Health – oil pulling reduces inflammation and fights oral bacteria, prevents gingivitis and tooth decay, gets rid of bad breath and helps to whiten teeth. I’ve also done this and I will say it does what it says. It’s pretty amazing.
- Throat – put warm coconut oil on your neck and wrap warm cloth to help soothe sore throat, make a homemade cough syrup by adding honey and lemon to your coconut oil.
- Chest – loosens mucas when you make a natural vapor rub by adding eucalyptus oil.
- Liver – can help with detox, and helps produce bile for digestion.
- Stomach – helps absorb fat soluble vitamins (celiac people this is something we can definitely use help with). Helps heal digestive health, coconut oil can ease constipation. Helps ease symptoms of Crohn’s disease. Assists in getting rid of parasites, bacteria and viruses. Reduces hunger, and can even help with fat burning
- Energy- can be used for an energy boost. I can attest you will get a serious energy burst. If you put a little in your morning drink.
